It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) of Sri Lanka, the Government of Sri Lanka, or any bank, motor traffic office or land registry mentioned in our guides. "TIN", "IRD" and related names are used only to describe the official services our guides explain.

The official source always wins

The only official places to check or obtain a TIN are the Inland Revenue Department's own services: www.ird.gov.lk and its e-services portal at eservices.ird.gov.lk. This website performs no checks and issues nothing. If anything written here ever conflicts with what the official portal or an IRD notice says, the official source is correct and ours is out of date — processes, notices and rules change, and we update our pages when we learn of a change.

Information, not tax advice

Our guides explain a public registration process in plain language. They are general information, not tax advice, legal advice or financial advice, and they are not a substitute for speaking to the IRD or a qualified tax adviser about your own situation. Figures mentioned here, such as the Rs 50,000 penalty for failing to register and the Rs 1,800,000 annual income level where income tax begins, reflect the rules and IRD notices current when the page was written and may change.

No fees, ever

This site charges nothing, sells nothing and accepts no payments. The TIN registration check and TIN registration themselves are free government services. If any page, person or message using our name asks you for money, a card number or a one-time password, it is not us and it is not the IRD — stop and use the official portal directly.

Decisions about your tax registration are yours. Always confirm your own position on the official portal or through the IRD call centre (1944) before acting, especially before a bank, vehicle or land transaction that depends on your TIN certificate.
