About
TIN Registration Check is a small, independent guide site. We exist for one reason: thousands of Sri Lankans need to know whether they already have a TIN (Taxpayer Identification Number), and the official answer sits behind menus on a government portal that most people open once and never again. We walk you to the exact check, in plain words, and we tell you what to do with the result.
What this site does
We explain the IRD's own verification service step by step: how to check your TIN registration with your NIC and a one-time password, what the difference is between Verify Registration and Verify Certificate, what to do when no TIN is displayed, and which everyday transactions have needed a TIN certificate since 1 November 2026. Every process we describe comes from the Inland Revenue Department's own notices and its e-services portal, and we name the notice or page each fact comes from so you can check us.
What this site is not
We are not the Inland Revenue Department, and we are not connected to it in any way. We cannot look up your TIN, we never see your NIC, and no check runs on this website. Every verification happens on the IRD's own portal at eservices.ird.gov.lk, which is where our links take you. We never charge for anything, and neither does the real check.
Why we built it
Since the registration drives began in 2023, many people were given a TIN by an employer, a bank or an agent and never told the number. Then the rules tightened: from 1 November 2026 a valid TIN certificate is needed to open a bank account, register a vehicle, transfer land and more. People went looking for their number, found confusing pages and paid agents for a check that is free. A clear, honest guide fixes that. If it saves one person a wasted fee or a duplicate registration, it has done its job.
Rules change, so if you spot anything here that no longer matches the official portal, tell us on the contact page and we will fix it.
